Review by Dmitriy Tarasiuk

Symphony no 5 Kindertotenlieder by Bruno Walter, Kathleen Ferrier, Gustav Mahler is a masterpiece that deserves recognition. The album features the soulful vocals of Kathleen Ferrier, accompanied by the exceptional conducting of Bruno Walter. The symphony is composed of five movements, each one telling a story of loss, grief, and hope. The Kindertotenlieder, translated as "Songs on the Death of Children," is a poignant tribute to the memory of Mahler's deceased daughter.

The album's opening movement, Trauermarsch, is a somber and melancholic piece that sets the tone for the rest of the symphony. The second movement, Stürmisch bewegt, is a stark contrast to the first, with its frenzied and intense melody. The third movement, Scherzo, is a playful and lighthearted piece that provides a moment of respite from the sadness that permeates the symphony.

The fourth movement, Adagietto, is the most famous of the five and is often used in films and other media. It is a slow and mournful piece that showcases the beauty of Ferrier's voice. The final movement, Rondo-Finale, is a triumphant and uplifting piece that brings the symphony to a satisfying conclusion.
